The curtain came down on our Summer Mixed League at Carleton University earlier this week with a final worthy of putting an exclamation point on the end of an excellent season.
Semi-final: Ottawa Attack vs Blockbusters
Honeybadgers had the chance to repeat as our summer mixed league champions at Carleton University, and were set to face off against the winner of the Ottawa Attack – Blockbusters semi final. Although both teams played well, Ottawa Attack were too strong for their opponents and won 2 sets to 0 to set up a final meeting with the Honeybadgers.
The Final: Ottawa Attack vs Honeybadgers
The teams have 4 previous meetings, and with the all time score standing at 2 each, the final was sure to be a close affair.
It certainly didn’t disappoint.
The two teams went toe-to-toe during a lengthy and exciting first set, matching each other point for point. Honeybadgers had a couple of set points but were hauled in by Ottawa Attack at 25-25 and then 26-26 before succoming 27-26. After a brief water break, the two teams resumed right where there left off, reaching 13-13 before either team managed to lead by more than a point. This time however, a late run of points by Honeybadgers secured the second set by a margin of 25-21. The third set began brightly, but as the match length ticked beyond the hour mark, and fatigue started to set in, Ottawa Attack powered their way to a 25-18 victory in the final set. It was a truly breathtaking final match and Ottawa Attack are certainly worthy champions, never having dropped below the top two matchups in the league ladder at any point in the season.
Fall volleyball leagues with Ottawa Volley Sixes
First up will be our fall season of mixed volleyball on Thursdays at Carleton University. 24 teams will be getting underway in 4 divisions on September 12th. The league is sold out, but we still have opportunities for both teams and individuals to join us for mixed volleyball at one of our other venues. Next up will be Sunday evenings at the beautiful Ashbury College gymnasium or Wednesday evenings at the Ottawa Christian School in Barrhaven. Both leagues start in late September. Later in the fall, we’ll also be at a brand new gymnasium at Redeemer Christian High School on Colonnade Road (just north of Hunt Club Road at Prince of Wales). Those leagues will start in November and will have Mondays and Wednesdays available for mixed volleyball.
As always full details of all of our fall league offerings can be found at www.ottawavolleysixes.com or by e-mailing admin@ottawavolleysixes.com
