We captured this moment during yesterday’s opening games of the Sunday Afternoon Coed at Carleton University. It occurred during Cheap and Dirty Ones victory over Game of Throw-ins. It reminds us of the iconic photo of the Belgian team seemingly pilling up a six-man marking job on the unstoppable Maradona in the World Cup. Maybe it was just the red shirts, (including a Belgian one, ironically enough) but it was the first thing we thought of when we downloaded the pictures.
What do you think?
Obviously the moment was a wall breaking at free-kick, and interestingly enough that’s where the original photo came from too: the Guardian newspaper published a good article explaining how that iconic photograph came about.
Some more of the Sunday afternoon coed photos can be found below and the full gallery is online on our online photo galleries. The pictures from the men’s leagues should be online later this week.
Next up at Carleton is tonight’s opening night of the Monday coed league. If you still want to play at Carleton U with us this summer, spaces are becoming scarce. We have a single team space left in our Friday and Sunday men’s leagues and only one coed spot left, in the Sunday Afternoon league. Of course there is still time to sign up for our Kicking Cancer’s Butt Coed Charity tournament at Carleton U on Saturday May 23rd and help raise money for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
If you are an individual looking to play, we will have our weekly pickup games at Carleton (and other venues) over the summer. The next one will be tonight at 7.30pm at Carleton U.
