Today’s advent calendar picture is a little different. No people, no footy, no badly photoshopped Santa hats, but definitely one of our favourite photos we took this year. The 10th of December seems like an appropriate day to celebrate the TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS raised for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation by Footy Sevens’ players at our annual “Kicking Cancer’s Butt” Charity Tournament last May. Once again: thank you all!
Around 400 people took part in the tournament and the money was raised from entry fees, purchases and bribes paid to referees to award penalties to teams . . . what a generous (but corrupt) bunch you all are! The final tally of over $10,000 far exceeded our expectations. In its first two years the tournament has now raised around $16.000 for cancer treatment, research and care right here in Ottawa. We’ve now established it as an annual event and Kicking Cancer’s Butt III will be taking place in May 2012. Stay tuned: we hope to have confirmed a date for the tournament by the end of the month.
The plaque in the photo was presented to us by the ORCF on the A Channel Breakfast Show and is now proudly on display at the Louis Riel Dome (the home of the tournament). You can see it in the trophy cabinet as you walk in the door of the dome.

*Or we may shove on a big snowman’s top hat. Who knows? It depends upon how whimsical we’re feeling at the time . . .
