Happy Canada Day everyone! It’s a great day to pack away the World Cup flags for a day and get the Maple Leaf back out!
It’s 7 years since Canada kicked off their (sadly unsuccessful) campaign as hosts of the 2007 u20s World Cup on Canada Day. Although the men’s national team hasn’t made it to a World Cup since then, did you know that one of the starters from the Canadian side in that game was playing in Brazil this year? Asmir Begovic played for the Canadian youth set-up before switching his allegiance to Bosnia, the country of his birth, and acquitting himself well at this year’s World Cup. Rumours are currently swirling that the mighty real Madrid may make a bid for the Stoke City Stopper.
