After some well publicised delays, we finally got underway at the new Ottawa University Lees Dome last night, and it was well worth the wait. It’s a really nicely laid out and spacious dome and the lighting is probably the best that we’ve seen. Canvaspop and Cobra Kai got the ball rolling just after 8pm, with The B Team, Kiahaycar. Flying Dutchmen and Defence Optional following a few minutes later. The slightly Lilliputian penalty boxes took a little getting used to for some of the goalies more used to wide open spaces, but overall it was great opening night. We had a few slightly lopsided scorelines as some of the teams seemed to be suffering from a bigger post-festive season hangover than others. However, teams will be slotted into their permanent divisions for the rest of the season based on their previous form and last nights grading games.
We’ll be back out at the dome on Sunday for the start of our Sunday coed and men’s leagues. We have one final team spot available in the coed league and space for two more female players. We’ve also added a third evening at the venue with Coed and Men’s 7-a-side on Fridays`. Team and individual spaces are available. Those leagues will start in a couple of week on January 24th. Registration and details for all of our leagues can be found at www.ottawafootysevens.com.
