It seems strange to be talking about fall and winter in the middle of a heat wave, but, to quote Game of Thrones, “Winter is Coming”. We’ll take a look at our upcoming fall and winter leagues over the next couple of days.
New Leagues/New Venues
We are excited to add 5 new leagues at two absolutely top class new venues this year. The Branchaud Briere Complex in Gatineau and Lees Campus Dome at Ottawa University will both open over the next few months and we’ll be among the first groups playing at these new venues. Both will have climate controlled domes with three top-class 7-a-side fields with field markings, goals and dividing netting. We’ll talk more about the Sunday and Monday leagues at Ottawa U tomorrow, but first first up we’ll have a look at what’s on offer in Gatineau.
Tuesday Coed League: 90 minute games
We’ve often been asked if we would be having any 90 minute leagues over the fall and winter, but we have never been able to secure a slot that made this a viable option before. However, we’ve got the full field booked at the Branchaud Briere Complex on Tuesday evenings and will be running the the first 90 minute fall/winter league in the National Capital Region.
The centre itself is over in Gatineau, 17 minutes drive from Parliament Hill (Google Maps) and the games will be played on the brand new indoor turf field. Kick off times will be evenly split between 7pm, 8.30pm, and 10pm each week. The 12 game league will start on October 1st and run through until late January, followed by a separate winter season from January to May.
Although the longer games will obviously be more expensive than the normal 60 minute games, the league represents fantastic value at $2400 (+tax) per team for something that is unique during the fall & winter period. Registration is limited to 18 teams and pre-registration is currently available for existing spring and summer captains.
Thursday Coed League: 60 minute games
We’ll also be at the same venue on Thursdays with our traditional 60 minute coed games. We have a great slot with game times evenly divided between 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, 10pm and 11pm. The league starts on October 3rd and will run until late January. Team registration costs $1600 (plus tax) and a place can be secured with a $250 deposit.
