2013 Footy Sevens Spring and Summer League Line-Up

Ottawa Footy Sevns Logo and leagues
There’s some glorious sunshine making a welcome, if unseasonable, appearance in Ottawa today, a nice little precursor to our spring league registration opening at 9am on Monday (11th March).
We’d like to thank all of you for taking part over the past few years and helping to make us Ottawa’s most popular coed soccer league. We’ll stick with our philosophy of always trying to run leagues that we’d want to play in ourselves with the best facilities, staff, officials, customer service and value possible.
Anyway, enough preamble, we’ve got 14 different leagues to choose from and here’s what’s on offer for spring 2013:

Sundays: Carleton U, Louis Riel Dome and Ottawa U

Sunday has always been our most popular league day and we’ll be offering three different coed options this summer. The 90 minute games on Sunday evenings at Carleton University’s Raven field are always our first to sell out, and last year they sold out within 5 days of registration opening, so we’d advise all teams to register early this week. We’ll also have 90 minute 7-a-side games out in the east end of the city, but indoor this time at the Louis Riel Dome in Blackburn Hamlet.
Ottawa University’s Matt Anthony field will be the venue for our first foray into coed 11-a-side soccer. We’ve had many requests in the past to run 11-a-side leagues, so we’ve decided to launch a fun, casual Sunday afternoon league with 60 minute games played minutes from the Byward market for that unbeatable, afternoon Footy and patio combination . . .

Mondays: Carleton Fieldhouse, Louis Riel & Hornet’s Nest Domes

Our year round leagues out in Gloucester continue with the spring season extending to 90 minutes and games split between the Hornet’s Nest and Louis Riel Domes. The league will be kicking off in mid-May, once the winter league has wrapped up. We’ll also be launching our new Monday evening women’s league at the Carleton fieldhouse, one of the most central locations in Ottawa and always a popular summer venue for us.

Tuesdays: Ben Franklin Dome

The Ben Franklin Dome was a new venue for us last summer and it proved to be so popular that we’ve added another evening of play there and we’ll be out there in the south of the city on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays in the summer. On Tuesdays we’ll have 60 minute coed games which will be our only coed offering that evening. We’ll also have the men’s league will be at Ben Franklin too after the completion of a successful first fall/winter season.

Wednesdays: Hornet’s Nest, Louis Riel Dome & Ben Franklin Dome

We’ve got three leagues on Wednesdays, and “hump day” has always proved to be our most popular weekday evening. There are 90 minute coed games at Hornet’s Nest/Louis Riel and 60 minute games at the Ben Franklin Dome. We’ll also have our second women’s league of the week, with 60 minute 7-a-side games at Ben Franklin Dome.

Thursdays: Ben Franklin Dome

On Thursday we’ll have our final night of the week at the Ben Franklin Dome, and it will be coed only with all three fields hosting 7-a-side coed for the whole of the evening.

Fridays: Carleton U and Ottawa U

Another of our longstanding favourites is Friday night coed 7-a-sides at Carleton University’s Raven field. Now entering its 4th year, the Friday spring and summer leagues at CU are always in great demand. Although we’ve been over at Ottawa U on Friday nights for a couple of years, this year sees something new: an 11-a-side men’s league. Again, it will be a casual 60 minute 11-side league minutes from downtown.

Saturdays: Carleton U

Our Saturday league has been a popular option for the past couple of years and this year we’ve manage to secure the 3-8pm slot that seems to work best for most players work and social commitments. It will be 7-a-side coed outside on the turf at Carleton U’s Raven Field.

Other Leagues and Tournaments:

We’ve also got our annual Kicking Cancer’s Butt Charity tournament coming up on June 1st and spring and summer Volleyball leagues available at Ottawa Volley Sixes.
Remember, registration opens on Monday March 11th and you can register or find full details over at the Ottawa Footy Sevens website.
