The grizzled veteran with that one last shot at glory is always one of the great sports narratives. Whether it is Dino Zoff hoisting the World Cup aloft at the age of 40 or a 39-year old Ferenc Puskas helping Real Madrid to a sixth European Cup, some greats seemed to save the very best for the twilight of their career.
However, if you are a mere mortal like the rest of us (and on recent evidence the Footy Sevens management team is very mortal indeed!) your ambitions might be just a little lower. If you still want to play some great footy, but are finding that you don’t seem to be moving quite as quickly as you did back in the 90s, we may have a solution for you.
We’ve added our first ever Men’s Old-Timers league for over 35s. It’s just like your regular Footy Sevens league, but with a little bit off of the stamina and pace. The spring league will be 7-a-sides, start at the beginning of June and take place on Sunday mornings (9, 10 & 11am) at our brand new premium field at De La Salle.
The field itself will be of the highest quality and the location could not be better. It is situated just off King Edward Avenue on Old St. Patrick Street and is literally just a few hundred meters from the Byward Market and a few minutes walk from dozens of restaurants and patios. As well as the excellent public transport links, it is 5 minutes from the 417 via Nicholas Street or Vanier Parkway and 2 minutes from the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge to Gatineau.
For details and registration for the Old-Timers League or any of the other Footy Sevens leagues, head over to the Ottawa Footy Sevens Website, or contact us by e-mail.
