Wednesday Fall@Louis Riel: Phase 1 Round Up

The Brigade ended the first phase of their season on a high with a 5-0 thrashing of Gypsy Caravan. This result sealed top spot going into Phase 2 and despite Hackusack‘s best efforts, a 10-2 demolishing of Rec League Heroes was only good enough for second in the division. 6th Gear‘s 3-0 victory over the relegated Killer Bees wasn’t enough to avoid the drop as Rec League Heroes took 4th spot on the Head to Head tiebreaker.
With the Dutch Rudders having already secured promotion in to the A Division on Week 4, Show Me Your Genny’s and Greenbelt United were left to scrap it out for 2nd place. As Greenbelt finished on the losing side of a 5-4 thriller to Soup!, the winners avoided relegation and in the process helped Show Me Your Genny’s secure promotion with 2-2 draw and 8 point tally. Neither the Jabulani Gunners or the Footy Ballers could manage to take the win in a 5-5 goal fest on Field 3 and as a result both teams will face the drop.
Division C saw the Pumas‘ continue their perfect start to the season, securing promotion with a 5-0 win over the Holding Cell A individuals. Blitzkrieg! beat the winless FC Voltron 6-4 to secure their passage into Division B while promotion rivals Nothing But Net needed to win and have other results to go their way. Despite doing everything in their power to overtake second spot with a 4-1 result over Turf Ninjas, Nothing But Net remain in Division C
FC Voltron and Turf Ninjas will join up with Division D come the start of Phase 2 as the Balldozers and A Little More Sandy achieved promotion into Division C. While the Balldozers enjoyed a comfortable end to Phase 1 with a 3-1 win over Sandy in week 4 action, the Foot Clan kept the standings tight with a 5-1 win over S.W.A.T in Week 5. It came down to another tie breaker with the decision going to A Little More Sandy.
Phase 1 Golden Boot goes to Emmett Savage of Hackursack who was in unstoppable goal scoring form, taking 9 goals from his first 5 games. He’ll need to continue putting them in the net if Hackursack is to contend for the Division A Championship. Remember to have your captain update all the scorers via the Record Results and Scorers section of your team’s homepage.
Phase 1 Honourable Mention goes to the Pumas who remain the only team to boast a perfect start to the season with 15 points after 5 games.
